Welcome to the dA club for the game Cry of the Kalahari: Red Sun Rising. This is the place where we showcase - with permission - all the lovely art that our players have drawn of their characters, and of characters belonging to other people. Sketches, character models, graphic novels - you name it, it's here. From time to time, we even upload fanfiction.

This is also a place for all game-related contests that either involve art or storytelling, so keep an eye out for the next one! You don't have to be a player to enter, and the prizes are awesome.

Note: Our favourites list is comprised of deviations that aren't related to our game but still fit with our game's theme (African wildlife, the Kalahari, African mythology, etc.) and stand out so much - at least in our minds - that we'd like to draw attention to them. You guys rock.

CURRENT CONTEST: Illustrate a Myth

PREMISE
One of the things that makes Red Sun Rising so unique is its tribal-inspired mythology. It's the religious base for most of our characters, and an integral part of the game's theme. For our first contest, we thought it would be really cool to showcase the creation myths that provide us with such a rich and detailed spiritual environment. To enter, create a piece of artwork that either represents or illustrates a creation myth of your choice. This can be something as simple as sketching one of the characters that appear in the stories (such as Shumusi, Shujaa, Msaliti, Weusi, etc.), or something as complex as illustrating a scene from one of the stories (such as the murder of Ahali by Msaliti, or the judgment of Kizuri and Kabaya). Your imagination is the limit - you can even draw or represent scenes that don't appear in the stories but are supported by the mythos (Shujaa and Ahali enjoying a sunset together, Weusi mourning Adui's departure, Msaliti scheming dark schemes, a generic lioness following the cries of her lost cub's Ojiji, a generic hyena shaman divining through entrails ... you get the idea).

Entries will be judged by a panel unaffiliated with Cry of the Kalahari: Red Sun Rising, who will be looking not only for artistic talent, but for creativity as well.

PRIZES
A $25 dollar donation made to the African Wildlife Foundation in your name. This money will go toward a "symbolic adoption" of an African animal of your choice (Gorilla, Elephant, Warthog, Lion, Rhino, Leopard, Zebra), and you will receive:
* A plush toy, representing the animal you adopt
* A personalized certificate of adoption, suitable for framing
* A fascinating Factsheet featuring a picture of your adopted animal
* A one-year membership in the African Wildlife Foundation, including a subscription to African Wildlife News, an informative, photo-rich quarterly newsletter

- or (if you live outside the continental U.S.) -

A $25 dollar donation made to the World Wildlife Fund in your name. This money will go toward a "symbolic adoption" of an African animal of your choice (African Wild Dog, Cheetah, Crocodile, Giraffe, Gorilla, Hippo, Leopard, Lion, Meerkat, Okapi, or Zebra), and you will receive both an official WWF adoption certificate and a photo of the animal that you will be helping.

We're sorry that we can't offer the donation to the African Wildlife Foundation to participants who live outside of the continental United States, but the shipping ($16.00 or more, depending on your location) just isn't in our budget.

DEADLINE
The deadline for the contest is March 30, 2008. This may seem like a long time, but it's for a good cause, and we're hoping it will attract some new players as well. Tell your friends! You don't have to play a character here in order to enter.
